Searching for a job, searching for a house. They are wandering around the city of Milan.
They found a temporary place near the airport Linate. An old military building.
No electricity, water and heating. Sleeping together on mattresses in the open spaces of the military compound. Hoping for a better existence they left their family in Eritrea.
Every two days, early in the morning, the Milanese police brings them a visit. Just to let them know that they are not welcome.
When it gets warmer they prefer to sleep and wash in the park.
Willing to tell their story they took me with them for a few weeks. I started to know them as friendly, caring and open people. They told me their life story about their journey, country and their hope for a better life. One storyline stayed in my mind. “Served in the Eritrean army, deserted and got caught.I stayed in prison for almost 2 years before i left my country. Comparing to my stay in prison this place is a hotel”.
